“We are a people with a land. Always been and always will be. They try to destroy and steal our culture and history yet what they don’t realise is that we were born fighters. The people of Palestine do not give up. And I don’t just mean Palestinian born individuals, in my eyes every God fearing, moral human being is a Palestinian. We are one in this cause.”

الرحيم

A man came to Prophet Muhammad and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Your mother.” The man said. “Who is next?” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Your mother.” The man further said, “Who is next?” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Your mother.” The man asked for the fourth time, “Who is next?” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Your father.”

Another man once consulted the Prophet Muhammad about taking part in a military campaign. The Prophet asked the man if his mother was still living. When told that she was alive, the Prophet said: “(Then) stay with her, for Paradise is at her feet.”

“Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me is thy final Goal.” (31:14)

The Arabic word for “womb” is Rahem (رحم)deriving from one of Allah (swt) 99 names “Al-Rahim” meaning “The Most Merciful.”

This alone is enough indication of how well you must treat your mother, not just on mother’s day, but every day <3

Happy Mother’s Day everybody

“الله يحمي اهلنا وبلادنا”

When I went to an NYU lecture, organized by my cousin, last week on the Syrian Revolution, or “crisis” as it is usually referred to now, I was hoping for words of optimism. When the guest speaker (Bassam Haddad) said that there was simply no solution, I didn’t want to believe it, but there it was: the truth. There is no solution; the regime won’t leave, the world won’t force it to, and the Syrian people will not stop fighting for freedom. So what next? Well, nobody knows. Haddad said that we just had to wait for that “thing” to happen; maybe another UNSC meeting where Russia and China don’t block a resolution, or maybe Damascus finally rising. Military intervention has been ruled out, since doing so will only cause MORE civilian deaths (as we saw in Libya). Also, the fear of a full-out regional war involving Lebanon and Iran is on the West’s mind. Therefore it is up to the Syrian people to remove Assad from power, and the Syrian people only. You would think, after today’s attacks, the people in Damas might step up and say they’ve had enough. But from what we’ve been hearing from our family over there, life is still going on; luncheons and parties are still occurring daily, etcetera etcetara.

Basically, all the news coming out of Syria lately is disheartening. God protect our people and our country is all we can say at this point…
